In Memory of James Curseaden

The People's Burn Foundation would like to express our deepest sympathy to the family of James Curseaden.  He was a wonderful advocate for The People's Burn Foundation and assisted us for many years with the Lawrence Township Fire Department Day of Fishing at Brave Hearts Camp for Children who have suffered burn injuries.  He will be missed.

James R. Curseaden

62, of Indianapolis, passed away February 23, 2012. He was born July 8, 1949 to the late Leroy H. and Esther Loynes Curseaden.

Jim was a 1967 graduate of Tewksbury Memorial High School in Tewksbury, MA, and worked for the Boston Red Sox. He served his country in the U.S. Air Force, and then was a police officer in Tewksbury, MA. Jim married Paula I. Massing, October 21, 1973, and they moved to Indianapolis in 1974. Jim was a Federal Agent for the Department of Health, Education and Welfare, and was a volunteer fireman for the Castleton Volunteer Fire Department. Jim was serving as Chief when the department became the Lawrence Twp. Fire Dept., and he was the first paid Chief of the department. He retired as a Captain after the merger with IFD in 2011. He served as the Lawrence Twp. District President of the Indianapolis Professional Firefighters Union Local #416. Jim was also a member of FEMA Indiana Task Force One, and was dispatched to New York City as one of the first rescue groups into the World Trade Center during 9/11. He also worked for the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Fire Crew for over 20 years.

Jim was a member of the Keystone Lodge #251, F. & A.M., a 33rd Degree Mason, and was also a member of the Marion Co. Fair Board. He was an avid fan of the Butler Bulldogs and the Boston Red Sox.

Visitation will be Tuesday, February 28, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and Wednesday, February 29, from 11:00 a.m. until time of services at 1:00 p.m. at E. 91st St. Christian Church, 6049 E. 91st St.

Surviving is his wife of 38 years, Paula I. Curseaden; brother, Barry Curseaden, wife Cheryl; sister, Cindy Curseaden Griffith, husband Scott; nephew, Kevin Curseaden; and niece, Kelley Curseaden.

Final care and services have been entrusted to Shirley Brothers Fishers-Castleton Chapel.
